Last year I had the opportunity to attend the closing ceremony of a Kairos weekend retreat at the women’s federal prison in Dublin. A wonderful team of volunteers, many from St. Raymond, offered an extraordinary weekend of Christian outreach and fellowship to the women. That weekend changed lives! Many incarcerated women testified that they experienced God’s grace and love for them for the first that weekend.
Another retreat is planned for October 6-9, 2017. Please see the following letter to us from St. Raymond Kairos volunteer Rosann Russo. I invite you to join me in support of this potentially life-changing retreat for some of the unseen members of our parish.
I am writing to ask you to join us in October when we visit Jesus at the Federal Women’s Prison in Dublin California.
I invite you to share with us in the marvelous healing of shattered lives and the bountiful provision of forgiveness and love, where fear, hatred, and bitterness tend to live.
You do not need to enter the prison to come with us. You can go with us without ever leaving the comfort of your home.
In the 25th chapter of the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus calls us to serve Him by serving others. It is with this calling that we in the Kairos Prison Ministry go inside FCI Dublin to be with Him. We humbly ask you to answer this same calling by joining us in spreading His healing light in a place of immense darkness.
It is difficult to describe the miracles that occur in the lives of the residents during the
three-day Kairos weekend and onward into their “Forth Day” of continued Prayer and Share meetings week after week. We have witnessed incredible healing of broken lives in a place where one might not expect to encounter such wonders. Statistically, according to a study in Florida, prisoners who attend a Kairos weekend and continue to participate afterward are less likely to return to prison than those in the general prison population.
We are now preparing for our October Kairos weekend at FCI Dublin. We have assembled a team that we believe has been called by God to bring this weekend to about 40 residents.
We ask that you join us in the call of Matthew 25 by, most importantly, praying for the team members who will serve and for the residents who will be attending. We also ask for your financial support. Any amount will be a blessing. It costs approximately $200.00 per resident to conduct the weekend. In these ways you enable a difference to be made in the lives of people who may have been discarded by society, but still have dignity in the eyes of God.
If you care to make a donation, it can be sent to the address below. Checks should be made payable to FCI Kairos-Dublin.
